Shelter, with better upholstery

Louis Futon

Louis Futon, a bearded man in a black beanie, olive jacket and worn boots

He owns the night. The couch owns the monogram.

Dear Housekeeping

Please leave the corner cushion exactly where it is. Louis has adjusted it through several winters and one regrettable rainstorm. The blanket may look borrowed because it is, but possession becomes complicated after midnight. If the doorman asks, nobody checked in. If the morning delivery arrives, set one coffee by the armrest and do not mention the upholstery.

The Night Route

Every evening follows the same expensive circuit, measured in dry concrete, warm vents and available cushions.

  1. Sundown

Takes the dry end of the awning.

  2. Late Train

Counts windows until the rails go quiet.

  3. Midnight

Turns one couch cushion to the cool side.

  4. Small Hours

Guards the blanket from ambitious pigeons.

  5. First Delivery

Accepts coffee without forming a committee.

House Rules

A gentleman keeps standards, even when the ceiling belongs to the city.

  • Keep the Seat

The faded monogram is never surrendered.

  • Wake Slowly

Urgency has poor manners before noon.

  • Leave No Crumbs

Except the ones already living in the coat.

Wish You Were Seated

The awning held through last night's rain. The couch remains lumpy, distinguished and unavailable. Louis sends regards from the good cushion.

Luxury is wherever Louis lies down.
